How Solitude and Deep Concentration is Underrated in Your Healing Journey: 3 Introspective Thoughts to Stir Your Path Forward

Society's Conditioning

Society has conditioned us to keep going, run in the rat race, never rest, keep being productive – after all, isn’t our worth tied to what we do and how much of it we can produce (for others)? Dare take time for yourself to recoup, go in deep, have a time of solitude to reflect and have personal growth – for it might just do something to cause you to change who you are and what you wish to do with your life.

Be Open to the Concept of Solitude

Let me encourage you to be open to the concept of finding solitude, a place of deep concentration, where the silence is completely silent for hours. A place where you can be undistracted for a prolonged period of time.

This is a personal journey. Not because others say you should do it, or because they found value in it. It’s because sometimes we need to get away from literally everything, find a place that can be isolated but safe, a place where we can unwind, completely relax, regroup, and have time to concentrate, go in deep, see the stars, and embrace the serenity and peace from the environment and regroup.

Possibilities of Solitude Benefits

It might just change you.

It might just open you up to new things.

It might be a time for deep soul-leveling encouragement which cannot be provided to you from another source.

Your self-sufficiency may boost to another level.

You may have visions and a dream.

You may wish to change something by your own doing – not because of a blog or article you read.

It’s a time for your soul to speak, which maybe it has been crying out to do for a while – and now you have allowed it to speak and share what you need so you can gain insight and clarity.

What A Journey of Solitude is Not

When I mention solitude, I am not talking about driving to work without the music on, or no headphones on at work, or shutting the TV off for an hour.

Pure unadulterated solitude is hard to have when you live in a big city – as there is always an underlying noise level, whether it be cars, trucks, just society functioning.

If you live in the city, this might mean you have to get away for sometime to experience this pure solitude.

It’s a place where even the birds may be not chirping for a time.

Pure quiet.

A place where your shoulders can drop from the weight of this world, you breathe in pure oxygen, and let it out slowly, and a place where there are no requirements but to just be you. No agenda. No rules. A place where you can go in deep if you wish and hear your soul talk.

Don't Be Afraid of What You Will Find

A lot of us have been conditioned to believe that solitude is bad, or wrong, or that we shouldn’t have or make time for it, or that we don’t need it. That going on in life the way we are is just fine…

Or we tell ourselves that we cannot go there.

We are afraid somehow for some reason that we can’t quite pinpoint of the silence.

So we put it off.

And we may choose to busy ourselves so we don’t have to have this time to be alone and have solitude for a time of deep reflection, personal growth, and a time of concentration to listen and just be.

Are We Afraid of Silence?

Why are we afraid of silence?

What is it that we are afraid we will find?

What will we hear? What will we see?

Are we afraid we might obtain a new perspective, a mindshift, that may take root, and cause us to make bigger more impactful changes down the road?

Do you believe there is benefit in solitude?

Do you believe we should make time for it?

Why do you think society is so against the concept of silence and solitude for a time to regroup?

The Experience of Solitude

Today/Tonight I experienced a period of deep solitude, deep reflection. It was a rather unplanned, yet somewhat planned event.

I allowed myself to go there.

I wasn’t afraid.

I looked forward to it.

It had been missing from my personal journey of healing for some time.

And it was an event that I am having a hard time describing at this point, other than indescribable and how underrated solitude is for us.

You see no one (no guru) will necessarily recommend solitude, because it’s probably not a money making adventure so we don’t hear about it as often as we should.

I want to encourage you to make plans to experience it, as often as you can.

Experience Deep Relaxation

One thing that goes with the experience of solitude is the ability to deeply relax.

Pressures of the world disappear.

We are not stuck in performance. We can take time to rejuvenate.

What's On the Other Side

This is the biggest question. It’s unknown until it’s known.

And this may be what is keeping us from exploring and experiencing true solitude.

But only you will come to know the answer of it.

The question is are you willing to go there?

Clarity Intercepted

One take-away you may gain from having time of solitude is you might gain clarity.

You may be at a particular point in your life where you are at a roadblock or you see multiple avenues ahead for yourself, but are unsure which road to take.

A time of solitude where you can obtain clear focus on your goals, obtain a life vision perhaps, may be needed.

You might be able to reach clarity or at least see your path in front of you become less foggy.

Obtain Clarity and Focus

We all need time away to focus and recharge. A time to collect our thoughts, to shift and allow our mindset to possibly change and have time to sharpen our focus.

Take a Sabbatical

Have you ever thought about taking a sabbatical?

I have taken a sabbatical before…and I will and share more about it soon.

In short, highly recommended.

There are so many things I want to learn and experience in this life, and by taking a planned sabbatical, you can have time away from the busyness of life, shift your focus for a time on other things, maybe go back to school, change your career, start a new hobby. become a vegan or vegetarian or adopt a plant-based lifestyle, quit coffee.

It’s good to shake things up a bit to experience new things, maybe even a new culture, learn a new language or take your yoga to the next level. The opportunities are endless. Shake the depression, bask in the sun, read a ton of books that you have wanted to read for a while but never had the opportunity to read.

Can You Find Joy in Solitude?

When people think of solitude, for some reason, I think people picture gray or overcast or gloomy skies. And it’s a time for sadness and reflecting.

Solitude can be anything you want it to be.

It’s a place that you feel comfortable and a place where you can re-center and accomplish what you need to for the time.

Joy can absolutely be found in solitude, along with peace. And what is uncanny is this joy is not happiness. It’s not bouncing-off-the-wall social thrill. It’s an inner joy. It comes from the gut. It comes from a place of peace, and it goes up through your spine and it forces a peaceful smile on your face.

It’s a place of authenticity.

It’s a place of comfort.

A place of vulnerability.

What Will You Find?

This journey is for you – yes, what will you find? What is there for you? What will you discover? What will you learn about yourself?

There is No Shame in Being Alone

Not everyone will be for you to take a solitude journey. They might find alternate things for you to do. They may guilt you into going and spending time for yourself. They may try to shame you out of it. Yes, not everyone you know will be an advocate for you and what you need.

There are many in this world, who are takers, who may try to take your peace once you come back from your time. Others may be jealous… the list goes on.

A time of solitude is for you, and only you. It’s a time to be treasured, protected, and guarded by you.

And I wish you the best on your journey of it and want you to experience all that you have for you.

Beware When You Come Out Of It

When you come out of a peaceful and serene time of solitude, the world may start to look different to you.

You just had an experience.

Things that mattered before, may no longer carry the same weight to you.

You might need time to process the events.

Schedule time or write down your thoughts as they are fresh to you because this world has its fair share of distractions to take away what you worked to achieve in your time of solitude.

While solitude has been underrated in my opinion, may we one day be able to showcase the benefits of such an adventure so others can see the value of it, and choose if they also wish to take this journey too.
